Teaser: Bar Pilar, a sister establishment of 14th Street's popular Cafe Saint-Ex, is a one-room saloon with a well-worn look and a nightly selection of tapas.
On the Menu
: Skip the nearby pizza places and save your appetite for Bar Pilar's mussels. A Clipper City IPA and a bowl of mussels, or any of the European-inspired seafood items, will make your bar visit feel more like a seaside vacation.
When to Go
: Weekends are busy, but not unbearable. During the week, it's quieter and a good place to grab a cocktail, eat a nice meal and chat with the talkative bartenders.
Know Before You Go
: Ask the bartenders questions about some of lesser-known American beers on draft--beers so good, they'll wash the name Budweiser right out of your brain.
: For Cocktail Sessions each Tuesday, manager Adam Bernbach presents a list of completely original cocktails to customers. He'll literally whip and shake them up for customers, but the wait time is lengthy, so patience is key.
